to me its two people - who might not have even been together (probably were though) but the singer really liked the girl but they arent together now or theyre very very close to being over. the singer is realizing this now and even though he likes her, he knows its not gonna work and he doesnt see the point in trying anymore and that hurts him (even if i wanted to i dont think that i'd get to you theres nothing i can say to u to make u feel alive again) And the girl doesnt care and pretends to try but makes it obvious shes just pretending (I know you're faking it but that's okay) and it hurts him because inside he really does love her. and maybe he wants her to feel a little burn when she thinks of him.
