He is totally in love with this girl, she is all he sees, but she doesn't see it, she's empty inside, and she's not happy.

He is drowning in her awe, he thinks shes so beautiful and loves her so much but it's killing him. Although, i have heard that drowning is a peaceful way to die.

When you're sad, you cry, so the tears of unseen light could be him expressing his sadness that she doesn't see his love, "unseen light" (the light could be his love for her). But he still has hope that it will work out.
