I'm not real sure about this one...I think it might be talking about how materialistic our world is. More specifically, I think it might be aimed at people who want to be famous. For example...
"let's go down to the fashion show
with all the pretty people that you don't know
we'll sit down in the velvet chairs
we'll hand awards out for best hair
and if we don't win one well then
we'll blow off our heads in despair "
I think this refers to people who want to win so badly, that if they lose such a competition, they will freak out on themselves and become depressed. Maybe to the point of suicide.
"nobody said that the world was fair
and if they did say so well then
we'll blow off our heads in despair"
I think the last lines here mean is suggesting that people who get as high as they do in the hollywood-ish, mainstream industry never do it without cheating, sinning, and generally being a bad person. And, if the world is indeed fair, and you didn't need to do these things, the people he talks about would be so ashamed they would commit suicide.
