Yeah an awsome song, but i think you're missing the meaning completely. i don't know how you car crash out of this song, but very interesting view. did he say anything about a car crash in an interview or are you playing guessing games. I think "falling asleep at the weel" is some sort of metaphorical term, not to be taken litterally. What does "your eyes are like black spiders" have to do with a car wreck?? Please tell me. I'm dying to know. I love this band, but can someone intelligently respond to me please? not to be too synical or anything.
First off, people assume it's about a car crash primarily due to the msuic video, which centres around the aftermath of a crash. This is supported by a few lines like 'never get so close to death, makes you so alive', 'your hair and dress in ribbons' and 'the sunward flight begins' (which could refer to smashing through the windscreen and flying forwards.
However, I think that this is more liekly to all be a metaphor for drug use, as more lines seem to refer to that. There are the obvious ones, but then the ones that I said might apply...

One line in particular that I love in this song is 'never get so close as when the sunward flight begins' because I think that this is actually referring to getting high, therefore the sunward flight, and how it brings these two codependent junkies together.
