I think that this song is about a guy that doesnt have much a social life, thus him "Waiting in the Shadows". He is looking for his break to leave the shadows, he feels alone, he feels like he needs a girlfriend or someone to talk too, and he has been waiting in his own shadows of darkness, and thats what is keeping him from socializing with other people. He probally stays home most of the time and feels lonely. He wants to step out of the shadow and start a new type of life because he is tired of staying in the shadows and watching and waiting, cause it aint going to happen.
