I thought that it was an intentionally self-depricating song - I think from his account it's pretty clear that she has no interest in him at all and he's misinterpreting things that she does as interest in him. The thing is, reading all these comments, I am just wondering if he (as in the author of the song) intended that. I thought from these bits:

The point was that he was interpreting her as being interested and actually she wasn't at all and the whole thing was going on in his head - I thought that was sort of that that would be everyone's understanding of the song.

Am I the only one who sees it like that?!
