I Also think it is about the past and moving on, but think it is also about drugs. I think its about adiction, and even after one quits a flame can still rise up out of the ashes. Hes saying adiction never fully goes away...
I don't think it is about drugs, I do however think it is about somekind of an adiction. Maybe meant as a metaphore. In my case this adiction is about beeing very much in love with a girl (beeing adicted to her, do to speak) and not fully getting over her. When I told her how I felt, and she rejected me, I tried to move on, and eventualy that succeeded. But she's still very special to me (not beeing able to get over the 'adiction') Anyway great song!!
