You guys are all wrong!!! This song was written by pete about Keith Moon, the drummer. I'm reading his autobiography at the moment, and Pete felt compelled to write it when he met keith for the first time and saw tha things he did - the booze, the birds, the pills, the madness!. The one line he built the song around was "I hope i die before i get old" which keith once said to him as an off-hand remark. That man was a legend!!!!
