please allow me to clarify, as I was thinking of this just today...
The idea is that the entire mess of the relationship is a tangled web. He's an insect that is chasing after whatever he wants ( as insects do, and that's how they get trapped in webs) and she is just some innocent thing that happened to be caught by the web as well. He feels that he was more deserving of the entanglement, but she shouldn't have had to be in it. Therefore if she gets the chance to get out, she ought to run as far awy as possible so as not to get caught again.
