I always interpreted this song as Shannon's battle with drugs (Lemonade). So, I think he's talking about how he's got no self-control to stop using drugs when he really wants to. And he's also saying that you are the only one that can look after yourself when you are an addict. The third verse, "Fool on the sheetroof..." talks about how his life has been turned to ruins, but there is nothing to do to fix what has already been destroyed. Etc... you can figure out the rest.
