The bit that goes, 'hanging of a branch...' really reminds of this Jain proverb (which I can't find at all now on the net, it was in a book) about desire and so on, something like, a man is running from a beast and fianally finds a tree to escape into, and he is hanging from this branch, thorns in his hands, danger below, but in the tree is a bees nest and honey is dripping into his mouth and that is the only pleasure he has... but if he would just climb up into the tree he would have all the honey and be safe and happy. The tree being god. I tell it badly, anyway, thats what it reminds me of.

that's very interesting.. i think it's really likely to be an allusion to that.
