too me this song is about being let down so many times. i think particularly his "pale heart" was broken by someone he cared down, and it seems to be a common pattern. "what could one more do to me". he's just so used to being let down and wanting and expecting more out of something that it's making him tired and "wearing [him] down". Relationships can suck...he's learning to deal with them.
