Let me ask you - why would there ever be a hell
that was a eternal and final resting place, if god
were a moral and reasonable creature?
I struggled with this question for a long time until I read a book about a vision, I've forgotten the name. The answer is that's what we ask for. We ask to go to Hell. the real horror of it is not flames and demons and torture or whatever. It's being apart from God. if you decide in this life you don't need God, he accepts your decision and unwillingly lets your real master take you. that's what free will is.
