I agree with the both of you, because I am the same way, except when im near sumone i care about or am in a deep conversation, my words dont always come out right. But i think what brett was trying to get at was how he was explaining about it in the last part of the song. he says how we dont say what should be said because we hate ouselves or others. And i love it when he says "so as I contradict myself and forget all I said...I am free." that part is very inspirational to me
