Amen Lyrics

In my opinion this song is about:

A girl seeing she's a sinner. I mean with the reference to fire and the rest of the words in the song and even the rest of the song has alot of religious/christian reference.

It's about how God sometimes let's you down or doesn't meet your expectations all the time, and almost questioning if he exists. And how the church tells you you're sinners and going to hell until you change yourself for something you can't see and even if it doesn't feel wrong they 'brainwash' you into thinking you're sinning and once you're older you feel guilty and it's hard to get rid of the 'values' instilled in you at such a young age.

'Where are my angels? Where's my golden one? Where's my hope now that my heros have gone'

And this is saying like, 'Where was God when I needed him? Where did he go? Why didn't he help me? Why isn't anyone rescuing/helping me', etc.

I have no idea of the meaning to Jewel herself, but for me it's about how religion is something you want, and God is something you want, but you want to be free of it and all the guilt it gives you and you're almost somewhat bitter that God wasn't ever there for you and you don't know where he/she went or if he/she was ever even there.

Songs always have different meaning for different people though. But it's a beautiful song and one of my favourite Jewel songs.
