1 this song is what made me fall in love with this band. i caught their set at the skate and surf this year, and it was excellent, hung out with tom afterwards and bought the album, which i thoroughly enjoy.
2 i agree that it's better to just let music be music, rather than peg a band into a genre, it inevitably comes up. how else do you describe a band to people besides "well, they're a punk band with kind of a metal influence" or "they sound like refused" or something like that? so classification is good when used as a descriptor, but not as a stylistic limitation on the artist.
3 the plain white t's are a pop band. they play pop music. it's pretty obviously some very high-quality pop music. they make me think of a more straightforward jimmy eat world, and jew are one of the best pop bands around. peace, ninja.
