this is probably my favorite song from rent. it's SO sad. roger's so angry and hurt and basically just keeps illogically screaming at mimi to go away because he's afraid of loving her. and mimi just kind of calmly and gently tells him that he has to learn to love again, but he just keeps screaming at her and trying to block her out. it's really powerful, especially the ending.
the instrumental works well. when roger is singing, the muic playing is rock music with a strong loud beat. but when mimi is singing, it's a nice mellow tune. its cool.
and the harmonies at the end are so pretty. (whoever posted the lyrics to this song kinda botched up the ending there lol) at the end, mimi and about 5 other people all gently tell roger to start living and loving again, to stop being afraid. but he's so hurt and upset that he just kind of keeps blindly lashing out at them and panicking until the force of his anger and pain manages to drive all the people out of his room. made me cry. love this song!
