i think this song is about being on the road, and how he wants fans to like his music but doesnt need all the glitz and glamour that comes with it. "strain of the show takes its toll but you dont wanna know" could be saying yea its hard but i dont want tons of extravagent things in return, i want you to listen to the music and if you like it then like it if not dont like it.
