OK well I can relate to this song so well! I think it could be about Katie Jane's attitude to other people. In the Kerrang! interview "Tales of Ordinary Madness" she said that sometimes she feels like she is the only thing that is real and everything else is created in her imagination, so in this life she is either God or nothing..a scary polarity certainly. I think in this song she is saying that no-one else seems to care about things in the same way as she does, no-one else thinks like she does and therefore she finds it difficult to relate to other people. When she starts to open up to people and tell them who she really is she gets scared that they will think she is crazy and closes up "You walk all over anyone who dares to be a friend"...deeming them "unenlightened" is saying that they could never understand her and what it is like to constantly struggle against yourself. "Love thy fellow humans..." that's such a powerful line, all these people telling you that you have to love each other and look out for each other but these people suck to put it politely! Why should you have to love your fellow human when they persecute you and manipulate you so bloody badly? We have a responsibility towards ourselves, if we look out for ourselves people can take care of themselves. A lot of people don't deserve our help, yes it's condescending and narcissistic maybe, but yes it is also true. "X-ing off the days"-originally I was thinking 'till death? After all that is the ultimate release! Alternatively it could be 'till people stop their persecutions ie. never or 'till they change you so much you are unrecognisable. "I nearly broke my back..."-this is saying we put ourselves out for them, we try to change to meet their ideals but Katie Jane knows that really we are never going to change enough, they will never be satisfied. "Your perfect man..." this is irony I feel, at least on Katie Jane's part, I don't think she beleives you can find someone that perfect..you can't always think you're better, someday you're going to have to settle for someone or be very very lonely!
