The chorus: "Hey revolver, don't mothers make good fathers?"
At first I just focused on that without looking at the rest of the song, so I figured it had something to do with war, or something of that sort, where the men are killed by guns (revolvers) and the wife is forced to take over. Basically just saying how war is an injustice and is terribly painful not only for those of us who go, but those back home in the family.
However, upon further investigation, and after reading all of your ideas, I agree with the woman taking revenge/men being possessive and unruly.
