I think the song is about 2 persons, and in my opinion, even 2 girls. It's somewhat the situation I am in. The I-person really likes this one girl he can or can't have, but he realizes that that girl "is not the one". The second person is a really good friend, and I think also a girl, someone he has a special connection with, like soulmates, and somewhere deep in himseld, he knows that that really good friend might be "the one", and not this girl he has a crush on.
