I think this song is about the death of a friend. He starts off by describing the corpse "skin like dark grey metal/ Inanimate and cold." The friend is fighting, and just "killing time," (I think that's the full lyric in the song) to ease his pain, but it is obvious that he is going to die. "When you wake up, you won't remember anything," Eventually, it's going to be forgotten and the pain will subside, but "that night the wailed in the windstorm/ Cries sharp like a cresent moon//my breath fogged up the window, so I let the night breathe in/ I let the ghosts into my room..." He immerses himself in the pain and lonliness of the loss of his friend. This is an amazingly well written song and has a very powerful meaning.
