Someone commented about another VNV song that it made them feel like running into the middle of a field and singing it really loud up into the blue sky... (sorry if I butchered your quote) To me this song describes doing the exact opposite- slowly walking, then running into the eye of the storm and screaming up into the wind and chaos. I haven't been able to discern whether the song is religious in nature- about finding god, or whether it is another song written to do with a love type relationship- perhaps again referring to the girlfriend he had that died? It is such a mystical, mysterious song, such a dark feel to is- the line 'The only sound is a distant thunder.
A tempest rages so far away from me.
I walked for miles and I started running
Towards the sound and storm..' evokes so much imagery. For whatever reason I imagine this one man, alone, in a desert, walking slowly toward a tornado or dust storm that is distant on the horizon. Wow. Writing these little analytical comments about the songs always results in me appreciating them a lot more!

That song you mentioned at the start would be either "Tempest" or "Solitary"
