ok this is the deal with this song.
it's supposedly based on a true story. but not of either Jan or Dean. the guy who did the voice for bugs bunny was a big corvette enthusiast and in 1961(the first year for the XKE) he supposedly had this story to him. however, if it did indeed happen in 1961 he would not have been in a Stingray Corvette, he would have been in a C1. the "Stingray" name is most significantly attached to the C2's and was offically dropped from new Corvettes in 1974. back to the song. the guy in the corvette does not wreck. he says 'but i pulled her out' meaning he pulled her out of fishtailing. which, if you've ever street dragged an older sports car, is a common occourence. the guy in the jag isn't necessarily dead, but he definately isn't in good shape.
jan did, however, wreck his corvette not far from this "dead man's curve".
