I think this song is about a guy who acts kinda stupid around his girl. He really loves her but she tries to change him, to make him a "better" person. But he just wants to know:

He's saying is that really how you want me, don't you want me for the person I really am and not for who you want me to be?... and she's waiting it out while he's someone else.. thinking sooner or later he will become this "great" guy that she wants.. but in actuality he just wants her to accept him for the person he is.. however pad that may seem to her.
