This person has been hurt by someone they completely cared about and trusted, only to find out they weren't who they thought they were ("You're not gold to me/ I was wrong"). The whole lucky boy thing... maybe he thinks he's lucky because he realized early enough that he was deceived and got out of the relationship quick enough before getting hurt too bad.
