I agree with acerbicheart. I think this song is really a beautiful message of how God feels for all of us. "to me you were never ever unclean". no matter how much we sin, God sees us as His children, and when He looks at us, He sees us bathed in Jesus's blood. "I know you know I am, but, even if it's slow, you're walking away." God's saying that He knows this guy believes in Him and knows He's there, but God also sees that this guy is walking away. Maybe slowly, but he's still walking away. "your pride has grown legs taking you away" He's talking about how this guy's pride is taking him slowly away from God. "I wonder for how long you can take that image you fake". I like that part, because i go to school with so many people that love to say they're christian and let everyone know that they're believers, but they don't really. it drives me nuts. anyway, this guy's pride is getting in the way of his ability to hear God's voice because the pride is plugging up his ears. " I hear your thoughts that are screaming in my face, 'shut up, shut up, shut up!'." The thoughts that this guy is having are basically telling God to shut up, because he wants to listen to himself. And the last part of the song needs no interpretation. Man, this song is beautiful. "those wounds must hurt. Let me clean you", "to feel pain ain't a sin, but it's when you're trying to cover it up that you hurt me within". I don't know... it's just beautiful. and to know that there really IS a God that feels this way for someone like me is awesome. better than that, even.
