This is a great song, but i think it's a little less about how thing use to be better and more about the way that they inevitably change. It seems to be about someone leaving middle america, much like kris, and giving it all up for someone else. trying to leave for a better life and ironically travelling around never finding it..."Trailer parks, neon signs, and an empty box of Lucky Strikes: all used up from the dashboard of America". in either case what you leave behind does not wait for you things fall and people change and die..."You'll be saddened to know the train tracks you once walked as a young boy are now nothing but a graveyard".
