I think this has alot to do with Government control or maybe societies influence and control over what we do. Like when he says "peace is what they tell me
love am i unholy
lies are what they tell me " I think he's talking about how we're told we should be something because it's right but on the inside we have this inner voice that tells us that we should be something unique. If you try to listen to that voice and be different, society as a whole seems to try and destroy you(mentally at least). Most of us just give up after some time and we conform but he won't so he has to live a torn, painful life..............Or maybe I'm looking too far into it, you decide.
