I believe it is talking about how young kids grow up and when they get out on there own, they get a huge slap in the face with reality and they come to the real world. The real world is there the wild things are. They don't have parents watching their every move and they don't know how to react in it. The kids or toy soldier are off to war because they must learn how to fight in this world to be something.
