wow. I just read all those 128 comments above and i think many of you have good points. I too am 16 and I dont know any other 16 years old who havent heard this song. But besides that this is without a doubt the greatest rock song of all time. It is the song by which every song writter tries to reach. I personally believe its about people trying to achieve happiness by material purchases but in the end happiness cannot be bought, it is earned and worked for. The reason they did not release the song was because it goes against the very message of the song. I also believe that Robert was probably high on marjiuana because it stimulates your creative mind. I've also heard this song was written as a "filler" for the album, I dont know if this is true but it would be quite amazing if that was the case.
In the end I really do not want to know the meaning of the song. I like it better when it remains mysterious.
