i don't know what it means personally to the artist, but to me its the kinda song you would find on one of those 1940's black and white thriller movies. with the girl running and screaming from the killer. for some reason that's the image i got.
i had a few ideas on how the song could be viewed.
someone is 'stalking' her home. and because her love isn't home she doesn't feel safe.
she's afraid of the dark.
"what if the lights fo out....."
"goodnight moon" - which could also refer to death.
then again i could be completely off track.
