Alright... so people like the song. Cool. =P Anyone up for a meaning?
There are many ways this song can go, it just depends on the way you think about it. On the surface, it's quite easily a stoner song. Skies turning purple, mustard drenched cucumbers, and talking flies?
But, losers like me like to take the song a bit deeper, 'cuz we know that's just what Incubus wants, right? =D
The first perspective is that the speaker is going through a large change in life, that everything is twisting itself inside out and he doesn't know in from out or black from white any more. If we're looking at it this way, it could lean toward a more tragic change, hence the "I forgot to remember my pain". Maybe at the end he gets so depressed he turns to drugs? God knows... all I can say is this is the lesser favorite of my two descriptions...
This seems more logical... My other theory is that the speaker is complaining about people who look to the future too much. He is sick of people who are too busy asking "What if this, what if that?!" to actually look around at what's happening around them. Though, this theory tends to leave some of the other lyrics, though, which... well... ya know. The cocaine/rogaine part is kind of unexplained yet, but I'm sure it can be explained logically in this kind of theory... I'll leave that up to the rest of you.
