in the first verse, he keeps expecting her to be more than what she is. its like he keeps needing more from her, but she can't give it. in the second, its about how she never tries to make him any better, because she know she can't be better herself. and he doesn't want to leave her, doesn't want it to be over, but its what he needs. in the third, she wakes up to realize that she needs him, too, but he can't take her back because he knows he'll never be satisfied with her, that she'll never be able to fullfil all of his needs. she's painfully aware of the reality that she is living, and now knows that some things just can't be changed. thats what i think anyway.
