I'm almost certain myself that this song has something to do with Metallica's personal problems after Load was released, like being a heavy metal band who became more mainstream and MTV friendly. (just as soon as i belong, then it's time i disappear) If you look at the lyrics it could make perfect sense. After the black album, Metalla had been gone from the spotlight for 5 years, just after their biggest hit, Enter Sandman was out. (again, just as soon as i belong, then it's time i disappear) Since then fans had been anticipating a new release, and some gave up(do you bury me when i'm gone?), but when Load came out, they recieved alot of criticism for becoming a more 'alternative' band. This was due to changing their image, cutting the hair, having a few 'alternative' hits and playing at Lollapalooza. I'm sure the band felt critics and fans were overstepping their boundaries trying to tell them what kind of band they were(do you teach me while i'm here?)
After that said and done, some of the lyrics should be more self-explanatory.
