my take on this is that it was a relationship that went on for some time, starting when they were relatively young - as in before the responsibilites of the world really hit hard...such as anywhere from late teens to early 20's. but things didnt work out...and so he broke it off, like im sure he had done a couple times before when things went working out. but when they were younger they could get back together. i guess now he is saying you cant put it back together...they are too old. now she is married or engaged or some other thing has changed. he cant go back . kinda rings of lost childhood nostalgia too. the only thing that makes me wonder is the "...you were easy" at the end. whats that about? i think maybe he means something like "your life was easy, you were careless". anyone got a different opinion? kinda curious
