I thought it was "falling asleep to the sound of silence" because of the few lines preceding that one. "...and call each other up when we get home falling asleep to the sounds of silence/sirens..." I thought that they would call each other up... and then just fall asleep on the phone. They didnt have to talk.. just knowing that the other was there, on the other line, was enough.
