I Agree with ladyjustice, I believe this is about a guy who kills a girl and buries her in a shallow grave in the woods...'when the dogs begin to smell her'.
I can see how you could interpret this song in many ways. However, 'when I'll try to hold my breath' doesn't necessarily mean that she's dead and buried. Wanting to feel free could be understood as worthless men beginning to sniff around her, trying to get with her. And 'And my dying lips will be forced to crack a smile' could be thought of as will she be the only one that these men are after, or does she stand a chance of avoiding them.
Dogs could also mean ruin. That when ruin finds her, will she just go down, or will he go down too. Just a thought or two about this song. It is such a great song I'd hate to think that it's about a rape victim.
