I think "stranger than your sympathy" means that he's surprised that the person feels sympathy for his situation despite all the things he's done wrong.

The second & third verses I think have many references to being famous and the life that comes along with it...

"It's hard to lead the life you choose" would be him saying that the perfect life isn't always the easiest one.

"You can't see when all your dreams are coming true" would be him neglecting important things (i.e. family, WIFE!!!) because he was blind to them when the rockstar dream came true.

"It's easy to forget" is everything on the road, maybe groupies, drugs, ect. really doesn't mean anything after the tour is over and it's easily forgettable. "and you choke on the regrets" meaning that he's done so many crazy things on the road that seemed like good ideas at the time, but now he regrets it all.

I think the whole third verse is where he comes home from the tour and thinks, "where is home? i'm a rock star, i'm famous, people love me" but he can't find a place to belong... and maybe he's realizing that everything he'd come to believe about himself on the road was really a big balloon filled with false pride.

Yeeah that's about as deep as i get.

No. Its about how people forget purpose in life, and they get sucked up into this game. He had an awakening because everything your flesh desires still doesn't make you happy. People forget who they really are. "all the talk and all the lies were all the empty things disguised as me". Read 30 seconds to mars' songs they are ALL about the same thing. Read Sting's songs you'll find it there too.

I agree with this but I also think that "It's easy to forget/You choke on the regrets" is a continuation of your thought about neglecting important things. They're easy to forget and he regrets not doing those things.
