The "domino effect" would be change set into motion, and maybe this person is the fourteenth domino who refuses to fall down like the rest of the dominos in the chain because they refuse to change. The last line "chances last a finite time and you're running out of time" leads me to believe that my interpretation has some sort of basis. Just my opinion, though.
