Chris Hani was Dave's friend in South Africa who was assasinated by being shot in the head. "A man was tall and once tore a piece of freedom for us all" is directed towards Hani, as he was a civil leader dedicated towards a new government in South Africa. Dave wrote this song originally with "Hani, Hani, come and dance with me", but then changed it, feeling that this song was too uplifting and happy to be about his friends death.
