i do think this song is about drinking, but the drinking isn't the focus, the focus is the fact that he feels he has to drink, because he's scared of something. i'm not gonna pretend to know what's going on, but i love this song, and i saw dashboard in concert recently, and i was right in the front with my friend, and in between songs my friend asked chris to play drowning, and he made kindof a face, and said he couldn't because that song made him upset. so whatever this song is about, it's definitely something deep.
