Have you read Erich Fromm's "The Art of Loving".. He's an established psychoanalyst that maintains that you can't even begin to love others, if you don't love yourself. He says, "...love for and understanding of on'es own self, cannot be separated from respect and love and understanding for another individual. The love for my own self is inseparably connected with the love for any other being." ... I think you made a valid point.
