I think this song is about christians and how some of them try and get others to believe what they believe and if they don't, then they hurt the people who don't believe or force them to believe in some way. But if there really is a god, he wouldn't be happy with these people because a good god would want people to be themselves, no matter if they believed in him or not, but "A good god is hard to find" so maybe god really would punish those who don't follow him. This song in my opinion is coming from an athiest's view - "We are all just stars and we're waiting, we are all just scarred and we're hating, we are all just stars on your burning flag"
