Everyone seems to be taking the "traditional" approach to this song, but think about it another way....Someone has taken that first giant leap into the unknown, and is suffering because of it ("gravity fails me"). Whoever took this "leap of faith" has made a mistake, and they don't want anyone to "land" in the spot that they have. In the beginning of the song, it says "There WE stand, about to fly." WE. This person is not alone in their travels. They're with a friend, but the friend is trailing them. One is leading, the other following. What I'm getting at is this...The person who made the mistake (Not of going first, but "landing" where they did) is trying to tell their friend to keep going. Thus..."Parachute over me!" This line isn't a realization, it's a request! Keep going! Don't make the same mistake I did! I'll catch up later! Go further than I did! An interesting twist no?
