I agree with No Hero, up above there. The only other thing I might add to this is that it could be about fighting the system. The anger and desire to make a change and shake the system to the ground is strong (especially as young kids, "pre-pubes") but as you get older you let other things get in the way (boredom, drinking, etc.) People move on without fighting, and in the end nothing changes because everyone's drive petered out.
