i agree with fortified. However, I think he's asking for help and guidance from God through everyday life, as well as when the times get tough and the sins add up. He's realized that he can't do it on his own ("using my own strength I've failed"), so he prays to God for help ("it brings me to my knees", a common method of praying by dropping to your knees).
