He never got over the fact that I slept there, right beside the piano. We wrote the song on the organ, because I happened to be sitting there, playing in the key of B major. Gary was eating, half listening, gossiping about something. As we talked, my fingers absent-mindedly skipped across the keyboard and stumbled across the now famous melody".
"Wait", Gary said. "Do that again".
I did. I played those same dozen or so notes, and Gary sang lyrics. The first words out of his mouth were "There's a world where I can go and tell my secrets to..."
