Santa's Beard Lyrics
Once a year my friend puts on a red suit
And hangs around with me and my wife
Now I can't help but feeling jealous each time she climbs on his knee
And she stands beneath the mistletoe screaming
For him to stand beneath the mistletoe screaming
Now I can't help but feeling jealous each time she climbs on his knee
Why must she climb on his knee?
I saw my baby wearing Santa's beard
She kissed him once and whispered in his ear
I saw my baby wearing Santa's beard
I wish he would go
He's breaking up my home
She always had this twisted side to her
But she'd never drag my name around town
But lately she's been humming cheating songs
And I don't like that fat guy around
No, I don't like that fat guy around
I saw my baby wearing Santa's beard
She kissed him once and whispered in his ear
I saw my baby wearing Santa's beard
I wish he would go
He's breaking up my home
I saw my baby wearing Santa's beard
Thrilling Christmas, trembling fear
I saw my baby wearing Santa's beard
I wish he would go
He's breaking up my home
And hangs around with me and my wife
Now I can't help but feeling jealous each time she climbs on his knee
And she stands beneath the mistletoe screaming
For him to stand beneath the mistletoe screaming
Now I can't help but feeling jealous each time she climbs on his knee
Why must she climb on his knee?
She kissed him once and whispered in his ear
I saw my baby wearing Santa's beard
I wish he would go
He's breaking up my home
But she'd never drag my name around town
But lately she's been humming cheating songs
And I don't like that fat guy around
No, I don't like that fat guy around
She kissed him once and whispered in his ear
I saw my baby wearing Santa's beard
I wish he would go
He's breaking up my home
Thrilling Christmas, trembling fear
I saw my baby wearing Santa's beard
I wish he would go
He's breaking up my home

I've always kind of seen this song as being kind of an answer song/takeoff to "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus"; it's from the point of view of the father rather than the kid, and turns out "santa" is just his friend trying to hit on his wife. The line about "humming cheating songs" kind of reminds me of an old joke about a prudish woman complaining about hearing neighborhood kids humming dirty songs when they walk by her house, The humor of course being that you can't really know a song's dirty unless you're already familiar with the words. So maybe it's a hint that he wasn't always that faithful himself.
Interesting take, D.A.T.
I've always pictured a highly annoyed JF sitting around looking pissed off while his girl is acting all playful and sexy giving his friend in the red suit 98% of her attention. LOL.
