hard to believe that guitar player from this band was in third eye blind...I think this is about a relationship she was in where the guy tried to act like he was in charge and dominate her, so she just cut him down everytime he tried it

My first thought was this song is about homophobia. I see a lot of gay refrences and slurs here. Then I thought about the whole "cutting down you're domminating ex boyfriend" thing (i_love_liana)...so i DONT KNOW!! But i really like SRC.
I always saw this song as a "i'm better than you think i am" sort of song, it makes me think of fighting back n stuffs like that, not necessicarily to a bf or anything but just to anyone who thinks you aren't worth the air you're breathing. It could possibly refer to Jules Verne (1828-1905) a French author who is credited as being the founder of the science fiction genre. Verne's first literary works were short stories that incorporated lots of scientific elements considered to be "too scientific" for his time; similar to how Star Trek mythology traditionally focuses on “realistic” scientific principles. The specific technologies Verne described in his narratives were imaginary at the time written despite the fact they exist in some form today. Star Trek lore parallels this phenomenon illustrated by comparing "tricorders" to "smart phones". Today's "smart phones" have more functions and capabilities...
